Today, April 4, 2012

As I was typing the date in this post title, I first typed 2011.  Time is flying by in a way I couldn't have expected...in a way my Dad used to say.  "You blink your eye and it's gone Chrissa," he said many times through out my life.  "It seems like yesterday you were a little baby I could hold in my hand."  Of course, I didn't get it.  But I do now, Dad.  I get it.

I had made plans yesterday with Erin that I'd meet her at story hour at the library.  I really hadn't been in over a year (how did that happen???) -last March- and it was so chaotic with Abbey being so mobile and so wild and Adam being 2.  I thought Adam had calmed down enough to handle it and I knew Abbey was a wild card, but I want them to be with other kids more and get Adam used to listening and doing crafts before he hopefully starts preschool in the fall.  Erin said Wednesdays were much calmer than the packed and wild Fridays I had gone to in the past. She was right.

I had some weird delusion that Abbey might stay in her stroller but I was wrong, of course.  I got them out and they started looking around.  Erin arrived a couple minutes later and Daniel actually got Adam to sit down and listen to the story for a while and Abbey ran around, touching and looking but not being too bad.  And I've also calmed down.  I know now if Adam is out of my sight in the children's room for a minute it's not the end of the world.

Adam got up for a while and was enthralled with the big stuffed animal corner....especially the two tigers. "Diego Mommy!!!"  (from Ice Age).  Too happy.

The craft was a paper plate duckey and we got them both to work on it.  Abbey was gluing the little peices of tissue paper until some of the glue stick got on her finger.  She didn't like the way that felt AT ALL!!  Adam drew on his, less intersted in the gluing.  They both got their cookie, but Adam gave his up to get up and play and Abbey was happy to finish it.  Most of the kids left while ours a couple of others kept playing.  I helped Adam grab a few books and hand the library card and the books to the librarian.  She found me another potty training book after she noted I had grabbed one.

Erin and decided she'd grab Happy Meals for the kids and I'd get iced lattes for us and meet at her house.  The kids just loved that.  Is nothing more exciting for a little kid than a happy meal????  Adam's came with a green lantern figurine he told me was him (ELMO) and later renamed SUPER DADDY....which I think Daddy will appreciate.

When we got home, I changed their diapers and Adam grabbed the dirty ones (just pee, Thank God) and put them in his toy recyle truck.  I explained to him they had to get thrown out, which he wasn't happy as he argued with me that it WAS a garbage truck.  Next thing I hear is Adam rustling around and I KNEW he'd taken his clean diaper off and put it in his truck.  Sure enough, when I told him to come to me he was diaper less.  I told him he needed to get it.  Instead, he got a new one and started to put it on.  I said OK, Adam, just this once.  He said Thanks MOM and gave me a kiss.  And by the way?  SUPERDAD and another figure, who he called ELMO, were loading that garbage truck.  Awwww.....

  1. Well, it sounds like he is ready to shed th diapers if he is taking them off...that certainly rushes along potty training. LOL.
