From Crib to Big Boy Via Tidmouth Shed

Adam is three and a half and has much enjoyed his crib.  He filled it with toys at night and often would use it for play during the day.  These pictures are from June I think (time has flown by so fast this year!).  So cute.

OK, this post may be about Adam but I had to throw this adorable picture of Miss Smiley in there.
See how they liked to hang out in there?
And Abbey had her own way of getting in and out.  But Adam just hoisted himself in and out of the side with no problem.  Clearly, he was ready for a bed.  He is a bit resistant to change and well, Mommy may be on occasion, too, so we didn't push it.
Bye Abbey!  With potty training and going to school and the fact that Adam is a giant, we knew it was time.  We tossed back and forth about getting him a bed or just taking the side off the crib.  A few weeks ago, Todd printed off four toddler beds.  Buzz Lightyear, Firetruck, Thomas and McQueen.  So Adam was getting a fun bed :)  We told Adam to choose, but he didn't.  So we chose for him.
Last week I took this picture.  Bye Crib (also truck garage, if you can it underneath).
Hello THOMAS!  I knew Adam would love it.  This past Saturday, Todd put it together.  We had talked about this milestone for a couple of weeks so that Adam wouldn't be caught off guard.
He was SO excited when he saw us bringing the boxes out with Thomas on it.  He was skipping and jumping and dancing.  And he couldn't wait to help.
He "helped" by sticking some of the screws in a hole we couldn't get back out.  Sigh.
Daddy hard at work.  Who was just as secretly excited.
Sitting with Daddy inside the bed before we put the mattress in.  He was grinning until I told him to look at the camera.
Watching Daddy take the mattress out of his crib and into Thomas.
Woo-hoo!  Thomas!! I don't have a great after picture...I'll have to work on that.  He was so excited.  And when Abbey got up, they just played on it for hours.  ALL ABOARD!  Adam kept yelling.
:(  We put the crib in the back in case we had an emergency that night.  It was sentimental a bit for me.  But Adam's excitement was so cute and I know that getting him Thomas made it easier to adjust.  That night, he kept sneaking to open his door and after two times, I asked him if he was upset or sad.  He said "Door Open Please" so I knew he just needed some comfort with the new surroundings.  So I left it open and promised him if he needed me or Daddy, we'd be right in the living room and he could come get us "O-K Mom".  "Sweat dreams".  So we slept on the couch for Adam.  And I know it made him feel better.  The next day, he walked into the back room and looked at his crib.  He was a little sad.  "Hi Bed" he said.  And because I'm weird, I answered him as his crib "Hi Adam.  It's so great that you have a Thomas Bed and because you have my mattress, you get to have both beds!".  Adam seemed pretty happy with that.  He loves this Thomas bed and when he's supposed to be sleeping, I catch him "riding" the train.  Or climbing to the top and throwing himself off like Humpty.  Of course.  And by the way, I have to say good night to Thomas, too, now.  And interesting side effect?  He isn't flipping out about having precise toys in his bed.  Yes, he's got it pretty full, but he isn't freaking out each night over a particular "set" of toys.  Probably because he feels like he can sneak in and out easier to get what he wants!!

  1. Can't help it...I love seeing all those ridiculously large stuff animals on the side of his crib. Somehow, even though there was no room for them...they kind of found a spot and added a cushy feel. The next phase begins.
