27 Grand View Ave.

Yeah, we almost bought a house a couple of weeks ago. We have been casually looking at getting a camp/cottage for a couple of years or maybe even moving, if we found the exact right house. Well, we had Bill Galloway show us a property on Grand View Ave. right on Lake Ontario, noticing an overgrown home there as well. We went back, checked out the listing online and were blown away by this very contemporary home being offered and a great price as it was a foreclosure. So we acted very Un-Todd & Chrissa like and despite the fact that the loft, circular stairs and sweeping decks made it the MOST un-kid friendly home we had ever seen, we decided to put in an offer. We were blown away by the views and the windows and how different it was than anything we had seen. The bank kind of accepted it, but wanted us to sign off paying all costs and they didn't give us access to a locked room in the basement. We went back to look at it again and realized there was potential for a lot more work than we had originally thought...including leaking skylights and rotting wooden door frames. And, truth be told, it wasn't a cottage it was a HOUSE so we'd be moving there. To Mexico...Mexico schools and a trip to the nearest grocery store, not to mention no pizza delivery. And I had dreams of Adam plummeting down the staircase. Oh, yeah did I mention it was on a CLIFF? And it only had two bedrooms and if I ever had another kid, I wouldn't be waddling up those stairs. AND the taxes were insane because it was assessed at THREE times what we were wiling to pay.

SO anyhow...No real access into the water we could see not to mention a DEATH TRAP for our kids...so we re-thought and chose not to sigh the addendum. But the thought of literally waking up every day to watching the lake was so enchanting,,,

We learned a lot about we want. I cannot put into words how romantic it was to me that I know part of Todd's driving force was to make my life-long dream of being on Lake Ontario true. But I've learned my dreams have altered a little. Of course, I would still love to have a place on the Lake. But a place were my kids can have a wonderful life is a bigger dream, whether that be on the lake or not. The yard at 27 Grand View was perfect, with trees and green space...except the chicken wire we'd had to put up to keep our kids alive!!!

  1. Maybe you should think about building on the lake. Maybe you should look for land instead of something already in place.
