Adam Back at School

Last Friday, Adam had his meet the teacher day at Trinity.  Instead of switching teachers, we kept him with Miss Elizabeth and Mrs. Pelow as he did so well with them last year.  He had talked about missing school during the summer, so I knew he'd be fine.  He did tell me he was excited to see Nicholas, but I explained to him Nicholas wasn't going to be there.  He didn't get it at that point.  Here we are headed to the car.  Don't you just love that face he is making??  Once in the room, he went all over looking for Nicholas.  He was sad he wasn't there as well as the kitchen/food set he loved so much.  He seemed to get it though at that point that it was all new kids.  He went right to the barn....his comfort toy at the beginning of last year.
He also got out the toy set that his other friend Isaac used to use EVERY DAY.   You can see it below...Isaac transferred to the other pre-K class.  I felt a little sad for him, but Adam seemed to digest it and be OK.  Adam gets over things fairly well.
Story time!  Adam knew right what to do.  This kid Toby seems to be the joker of the class.  VERY outgoing.  But as a whole, the group is more subdued than last year, which I think had something to do with the fact that SO many of those kids were already five when the year began.
Then the kids sat down and had to drawn their faces.  Adam has come SO FAR since last year.  He drew the eyes, nose and mouth.  I did have to point out that the hair goes on top of the head :)  He wasn't this miserable...he just hates posing for my photos!
Snack time!  He looks SO grown up!
On our way out, I tried to get a nice photo of him in front of the school.  He was pretty serious and not in the mood.
I ended up liking this photo quite a bit.
So yesterday, we had our first full day.  Right to his hook!
He started playing with the tool set.  A kid named Brady wanted to try Adam's dragon and was willing to share his ball he brought in. It was clear Adam got the social part much better than a year ago.
When I picked him up, I was told he did great.  I once again tried to pose him for a nice photo.  This is the best :)
I went home and took the first day hand off the fridge to compare.  What a difference a year makes.  I sent it to to his teacher.  Like me, she was amazed at the difference...
Today, Abbey went with me to drop him off.  He took the name tag that said Abigail to put on the attendance board.  Oops, not THAT Abbey Adam!  Abbey ran out of the room yelling and up the stairs...anxious to get to her school.  When I picked up Adam, I was told he was a little bit naughty, talking back and pulling on a girls' strings.  Oh, Adam.  First time out on his bed of the year!

  1. Now he's one of the older ones, getting into a little naughtiness!! It is good that Abbey was eager to show him that she had her OWN school to go to. Maybe that is the way to get her to embrace it more. Cute but sad to see him already have the routine down pat right?
