On Sunday, Abbey woke up sick and Adam seemed OK I decided to take Adam to his first movie date as his sister snuggled with her Daddy. He was a bit whiny, so I asked him if he wanted to stay home or go somewhere special with Mom. Immediately, he perked up. "Animal?" he asked. No. "Train?" (his term for somewhere with rides). No. "Water?" No. He was pretty excited. During the five minute car trip, he asked me again the same series of questions. When we pulled up in front of the Oswego Theatre (only 11:30am so we were one of the first), he seemed puzzled. I got out my camera to document it and actually got a half a real and half a fake smile when I asked. I got him out of the car and he immediately zeroed in on the Madagascar 3 movie poster. "LION!" he said. I love that I got a picture of his excitement.
We went into the foyer where there was a poster of Ice Age 4 Coming Soon. Adam liked this place. We went inside and up to the concession stand to buy our tickets and food. I was going to let him pick out a candy, but he was too excited. His favorite thing was this big display for a movie coming out in August "ParaNorman". "Monsters! Mommy! Don't Touch This Monsters!" (Love it when he parodies things I say to him). I picked him out so popcorn and gummy candy and got soda I was actually going to let him share,
Sitting in his seat watching the previews. He both liked them and was impatient. He wanted to se Alex the Lion! It was dark in the theatre, but the awesome camera lens captured the light just right.
He was hesitant about the seats because they folded and I had to put my arm around him or he'd get out. About halfway through, he became much more comfortable.
At first, he wouldn't eat these and I was really surprised. He loves gummies. He put the ones I gave him on the arm of his chair yuck. He wouldn't touch the popcorn either. But he sipped the soda.
He did really well, except he couldn't get that he should talk quiet. When he was excited, he'd stand up and say YEAH! Or "YOU DID IT!" to the characters. Pretty cute. There was only one other family. By the end of the movie during the credits, you can see he was an old pro, eating popcorn and slurping the last of the soda. He thought there'd be a penguin cartoon after, like on the DVD, so I had to convince him a bit to leave.
Alex the Lion!
Afterwards, he was looking all over the lobby. He loved the video games, the posters and the stairs (I love it there, too. I LOVE the art deco feel and would LOVE to do a photo shoot there someday). I had to drag him out. The 4th of July parade had started and the fire trucks were gong by, so I took him over to watch. Hmm, I thought, I guess I should've brought him to the parade. But after five minutes, he had turned me around. "Lion, Mommy." Guess I made the right choice.
Poor kid got upset when I put him in the car. He wanted to go back in. He talked about it all the way home and this week, kept asking me if we could go see the Lion. I told him it was a special once in a while thing. Ice Age 4 Coming Soon!
