Potty Time

First off, I think I have to write a check to Elmo for potty training my son and starting to train my daughter.  Adam has come leaps and bounds.  The Elmo Potty Time DVD really opened the door for him and Abbey now climbs on the little potty and dances on it like Elmo.  Adam goes without a diaper all day when he isn't in bed and has had one a few accidents in the last few weeks.  I've started taking him out without a diaper, too.   He's even finally volunteered to try number 2 a few times, making a little headway.  (Usually he holds it until he has a diaper on).

Before I continue, I do have to add that this guy deserves an honorable mention, too.  Every time Adam uses the potty, he hits the button and Darth says "Impressive...Most Impressive, but you are not a Jedi yet."  And the two M&M's he gets which he calls Peepee Chocolate also seem to motivate.
Anyhow, today we went to Babies 'R Us.  Here's a not great camera phone shot of Adam in the tractor in the foyer.  I stuck Abbey in it with him, but she was much more interested in getting into her spot in the cart.  I took Adam into the bathroom there and....he used it!  For the first time, he used a toilet that wasn't ours. He was SOOOO excited.  Mommy, I did it!  You did it! Peepee in the potty!!!!  I'm a good boy.  Yes, Adam YOU ARE.
I told him he could pick out a toy.  He was so cute, really weighing his options. He usually doesn't get to do this.  He picked up a stuffed lion, giraffe and elephant and I reminded him he could only keep one.  He kept the lion.  All through the toy section, he stuck with this little stuffed lion "Alex the Lion Mom..the King of New York!" (A Madagascar thing).  Here he is holding it in the car on the way home.   He's come so far when just two months ago I was afraid he wouldn't be able to go to pre-school!  Now he's a big boy which makes me proud and a bit nostalgic.... (love his I hate when my mom takes my picture face).
As a side note, for Abbey's part today, she didn't freak out for the hour we were in there until the end in line.  I let her pick a toy...usually she's not interested, but today she saw a Little Mermaid set of Ariel and her two sisters.  Bath toys.  She went nuts for them.  Is currently hugging them everywhere she goes.

And by the way? When I passed the shoe section, my daughter who rarely speaks starting pointing and yelling "Shoes! Shoes!" all excited.  What a girly girl.
