Last Day of the Month/June

On the last day of the month, the kids and I take the tipping fee (money for the cost of dumping trash) to the county office in Volney.  Usually, I take them to Target from there but Adam hadn't been feeling well and Abbey was showing signs of coming down with the same thing.  Adam, who seems to have some sort of weird awesome sense of direction asked for Aunt Tammy on the way (she also lives in Volney, but that's not the road we take to her house.)  And as we turned the corner from Route 6 to Route 3, Adam asked for Slide? weeee!!!  He had spotted the town's playground.  Tammy had said her nieces love it.  He seemed to remember that.  I told him we could go after we did our job at the dump.  He seemed satisfied.
As usual, Miss Abbey went right for the swings and Adam for the slide!

They are further a apart than I liked so I encouraged Abbey to go over to the play area.
She got right into it...there she is following her brother down the bridge :)

AAnd she was climbing this thing, though it was too big for her.  She'd stop when it got to far and I'd help her down and she'd start all over!  Adam eventually wanted to rest on the bench for a snack and Abbey joined us.  A few more minutes and then as we passed the swings, they had to get back on them of course.
The weirdest thing happened.  A bout, maybe 6, took an interest in Adam and at first Adam liked it.  The kid played "chase" and suddenly Adam, who LOVES that game, came and hid behind me.  I told him it's OK.  Then he started getting aggressive with the kid, spitting in his direction, throwing gravel and just giving that attitude, who was a bit odd and perhaps had a few issues.  Besides the fact that his mother was ignoring him to talk on the phone.  I had to put Adam in time out next to the swing set, but it still didn't stop him.  I'm not sure what it was, but I knew it was time to go!  I had never seen Adam like that, but I could tell it was a defense mechanism of some type. Something that kid had did had made him wary and distrustful.  Maybe something I missed.
I had to drag Abbey out of her swing yelling of course and convince Adam to leave....it was apparent at that time he was still feeling sick.

Afterwards, I stopped at the bank to deposit rolled coins into the kids accounts and Abbey had the meltdown of the century, even breaking a sign with her head (I was holding her, it was on the counter).  I couldn't leave...the woman had her money and she was operating the drive thru at the same time.  It was EPIC.  The whole bank was quiet as they watched me try to calm her. Adam was so good, going over to the kids table and reading a book.  By the time we left, I knew Walmart was not an option and that Abbey probably had whatever Adam did, too.  She was whimpering in my arms as we left.

She did have it and was sick for a week and a half, just yesterday seeming more like herself.  I felt sorry for her, but it was some of the longest ten minutes of my life!!

  1. I love he still says WEEEEE when he does something fun! Watching them play is one of my favorite things, actually playing with them is better!

  2. Poor Abbey. Yes, the girls love Volney park. So funny that Adam knows when he is close. He obviously passes some landmark that he has remembered.
