I grew a big knot of anxiety in my gut today so I called my dad to talk. He told me a story about how when he was really little, he grabbed his grandfather's dentures out of his mouth. So every time after that his grandfather would torture him by taking them out of his mouth and snapping them at him. Just one of many Bob Duttinger tales I don't want to forget
After Chris left he would joke that he would send flowers to him at his parents' house signed as his gay lover. Today he said he'd do it before he died. Stupid, but his sense of humor! He told me how happy he was that he knew I was with a good man and had the beautiful kids I always wanted.
I got off the phone able to breathe again. I want to hear as many of his stories, silly jokes and feelings as I can and write them down so my kids can get a sense of their grandfather. He told me straight out he didn't want to be in pain anymore. I understand, but...well...you know....

Keep writing the stories all down on this blog. You need to have them documented somewhere for future generations. Mark your search space at the bottom with the word dad, so you can search that word anytime and all these stories pop up. Print them and keep them in a "dad" folder. Will help you down the road.
ReplyDeleteThat's what I was thinking...write out as much as possible and use the blog to book service. I want them to know as much about my Dad as possible. Have to figure out that tag thing.
ReplyDeleteOn the page where you write the blogs...at the bottom on the right...there is a blank space titled "labels". You can put as many labels as you want in there, separated by commas. On the home page of your blog...in the upper left corner there is a search bar. You type the label in there...and the list of stories with that label pop up. You can go back and put labels on past stories too...and just push publish when you are done (not save)...they will re-publish on your main page in the same place with the update.
