Thursday night, after Halloween festivities were over and I was trying to get my over sugared kids to bed, I announced to Todd that November 1 and January 2 are my new favorite days of the year.
I was kind of joking, but I have to admit, the calm after the storm is becoming more appealing. Of course, I LOVE seeing the kids so excited and into the festivities, but it's exhausting preparing three for everything that comes with the holidays. With Adam's birthday at the same time, it's both exciting and tiring. There's not the time to soak in the sights and sounds of what I love about autumn with all the shuttling of kids and taking care of the details that come with anything extra like Halloween and birthday parties. I always LOVED October. The change in the air, the wind, the leaves, Halloween and how's it's cool but not freezing (usually).
This morning, after Abbey, Ellie and I dropped Adam off, Abbey asked for a bagel. She doesn't usually request one, so I took her to Dunkin Donuts and got her one. We went home and as I got Abbey out of the car, I could see how much she was into this silly bagel. And I thought about how much she was into all the swirling leaves earlier with the wind. I told her to sit at the picnic table. She was happy to comply and she ate her snack, the wind blowing her hair in her face while she did and her not caring (like Adam would :). She ended up snuggling me and sharing a bite or two. I wasn't thinking of anything else....just enjoying the fall wind and watching the leaves. With my daughter, who clearly enjoys these things, too. Like me, not caring if her hair is messed up from the wind or her nose is chilled from the crisp air.
Adam told me last night he loves Halloween and asked me this morning when was Christmas. He was disappointed to find out that next is Thanksgiving, reaffirmed by school when we got there and his name was on turkey for the change of the month. Don't rush my favorite season Adam! :)
