We've been on a few since, including a couple of weeks ago when I got cocky and decided to walk TWO blocks. It was sunny and gorgeous and...as we turned the corner on 7th street across from the fort, just after some elderly ladies on a porch said an ominous "I hope you get home before it rains", a wicked wind like I had only experienced on campus in the winter whipped up. It knocked Adam over and he couldn't get back up, covering us with dirt and sand. That day I had gotten so confident, I had decided even Bailey could come...so she was freaking out attached to the stroller. I finally have to bend over and pick my son up, who stopped crying and instantly put his face up to catch the wind. That's my son!
Abbey's blankets were getting whipped around and I tried to keep her covered. She didn't cry at all, despite the sand I found on her face when we got home. For a few moments, I literally didn't know what to do. I could not move in any direction and I thought about calling Todd. But it died down enough for me to finish that stretch very slowly and round the other end of the block, carrying Adam and pusshing Abbey into the wind...oh yeah, my back was killing me.
I made slow going walking up 6th street towards our house, but the neighbor Brenda across the street came running towards us. I saw her and I thought, is she coming to me but dismissed it. I had already passed two men in their lawn who didn't blink at watching my struggle.
But she had. Brenda had seen us leave and was worried when the wind came up and knocked over her pots on her kitchen counter. She took Adam...carrying him a bit then putting him down as he killed her back haha. By then the wind was more manageable as we were a block from the lake. It was a nice surprise that she helped out.
Overall, my kids didn't panic and neither did I...I mean, so what if we ended up Over the Rainbow??haha
I took them again for the first time since today. But, poor Bailey got left behind. AND I conquered just one block...and it took 18 minutes. :)
Hey, one step at a time, literally. You'll be taking strolls through the park. Maybe you should go there to begin with...it is a contained area with no cars, but Adam would want to climb all over everything.
ReplyDeleteThe stairs look like a mountain from that view, no wonder Adam likes them so much!
ReplyDeleteBrave indeed... 2 babies and dog!!! Glad all ended well.
