Water Juice Moment

Adam was asking for his father since he got up today.  He kept thinking he was in bed sleeping, like it was Sunday, for some reason.  He saw a garbage truck outside and tried to go out to it.  "DADDY! Take a Ride! he yelled out the window.  He even "faked" going pee on the potty so that he could call him.  When he couldn't get through, I told him we'd go see him.

We brought Daddy up some donuts and drove him to the post office before heading to Wal-mart.  It's under construction so it's kind of even more stressful than usual.  Adam does a decent job of staying near me, but it seems every two minutes I have to tell him to come back to the cart.   We walked by the TV section and all of the televisions were playing "Despicable Me".  Adam thought this was pretty cool, zipping around the aisles in a circle singing "DESPICABLE ME".

Overall, Adam is pretty good about putting stuff back.  He grabbed a copy of Madagascar and held onto it.  I told him he could hold it, but we weren't taking it home with us as we have it already.  You can guess how that played out.

We got 75% of my list, which is about par when I shop with two toddlers.  As I was checking out, Abbey, who had eaten an entire bag of dried apples and had been quiet the entire time, reached over and dumped a box Kit Kats off the shelf.  I picked them up and had to take the movie from Adam.  Boy, he started crying ALEX THE LION ALEX THE LION.  We got to the car and he was asking for the Alex the whole time.  I told him we'd go get a Happy Meal and thought that would stop him.  Nope.  He was convinced that I HAD bought the movie and it was in the bags.  Luckily, he calmed down by the time I pulled out.  Through it all, I didn't even get frustrated.  Such a scene would have flustered me two years ago.  I got this Mom thing down more and more.

The line at McDonald's was long.  I got their Happy Meals (which for the second time in a row, they each ate a half nugget.  I'm not sure what's up with that.  The toys are Madagascar themed, but of course it's a new character Adam didn't know so my plan foiled a bit, but he was just as happy.  It is good for him to understand he doesn't buy everything he likes at the store, too.

We went over to my favorite place to sit with the car.  A parking area near Tenth St. on the lake with a great view of the Lighthouse.  I rolled down the windows and the kids loved the wind, the birds and even the train that passed by.  For the first time, I actually took them out of the car because they asked.  I stood at the end of the lot with them.  "WOOOOW" Adam said at the waves.  Abbey jumped up and down and held her face in the wind.

Exactly how I feel about Lake Ontario, kids.

"Water Juice!" Adam said.  He had said this before, and it was always cute.  Before that, he called the lake "Bathy" which is just as cute.

We couldn't stand there long...Abbey wanted to run into the lake and Adam, having not forgotten throwing rocks with his Dad last summer into the lake, immediately starting pulling me towards them ROCKS ROCKS.  I put them back in the car and we sat there a bit...they even more interested in the wind and the water now that they had stood near it.

Nice moment.

  1. JoDee made her kids sit in the cart until they were like 5. LOL. With three kids, she knew going anywhere and not having them confined would be impossible. At least it isn't stopping you from trying to get things done.

  2. Sounds like a nice little day experience. You are on old pro with little ones now. Tell Adam I'll be happy to throw rocks in the lake with him when you come to the cottage this summer!!!

  3. I sat at the overlook yesterday and ate lunch, taking in Oswego for the last time before I head south. It was nice and made me think of all the summer days I spent at Brietbeck, the Harborfests, the nights I needed to get out of the bldg and run, or sit and just watch the water! Those kids will LOVE living so close to the water just like their mama!
